Is It Obligatory To Offer Prayers After Reciting Quran?

July 20, 2012
There is no valid argumentation that come from the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and that tell about these prayers. There is no such narration from the scholars who taught these supplications. There is no basis in shariah that tells about reciting prayers after completing the Holy Quran. It is narrated from Anas Ibn Malik that he often read supplications after finishing the recitation of Holy Quran. When Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Saleh was asked about reciting the supplications at night. He replied that he don’t know if there is such type of clause that exists.

There are various narrations which are mentioned about offering prayers after the Quran Recitation, but they are not at all valid, because they are very weak or are false. However, Quran learning online has made the recitation and learning of Holy Quran very easy. It is also believed that there is no valid saying of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) about this type of prayer. There are Islamic scholars who wrote about Quranic science and its dhikr like Ibn Katsir, Imam An Nawawi who did not mention it in any of their work. If there is only any valid saying, then it must be quoted.

A valid narration from Anas Ibn Malik says that he supplicated after finishing the recitation of Holy Quran. He gathered all his children, his wife and then prayed. Imam Abu Hanifah and Imam Ash Shafi have worked a lot on the recitation of Holy Quran but still there is no narration that tells about praying after the completion of recitation of Quran. It is recommended to recite prayers after completing the recitation of Holy Quran by scholars like Imam Ahmad. However, there is not enough evidence so that this act can be made compulsory.
